Fake Photography??? An Architectural Image

I had the opportunity to visit an architectural and furniture rendering firm in Chicago where I saw some pretty realistic computer renderings. I saw the process involved in creating these photographic-like images and is it time consuming! This complex process really expresses architecture with a realistic flare using the computer. I'm interested to see where realistic imagery will take us in the future.

Final Project

A few things to think about:
You will need at least ten prints
They are due May 10th and I will accept no late prints
You may do whatever you want as long as you and I agree that is a good idea
Think about what you are truly interested in when you are contemplating this assignment
Remember there are an infinite number of things to photograph - you only need ten of them
Artists:
Sharon Lockhart
W. Wegman
W. Eggleston
Peter Fraser
Katy Grannan
Anna Gaskell

Hey everyone-
I work with a girl who just did a public art project that focused on "clean graffiti" meaning, everything they put up can be cleanly taken down. They made tiny lights using really strong batteries and magnets and stuck them all to the orange sunburst sculpture near the MAM. Apparently, these lights can work for almost 13 days straight because of the crazy tiny battery/magnet. If you have a chance, go check it out! Who knows how long it will be up!

Henry Lim

As I was surfing the internet looking for inspiration for my graphic design class, I cam across Henry Lim's site. What I like about his images are they (for the most part) are taken at dynamic angles. His photos give a great sense of depth and I like his exploration with very saturated colors and black and white images. Check it out.

We need your help...

You will probably need to talk to Amanda in our class for more details. But I just thought I would let it be known that Freedom By Design (an organization that helps families or people with disabilities redesign and redo parts of their homes to make them more accessible) is holding a silent auction of art work and would love for you to donate anything you have available to us...thanks a lot!

JPEG Magazine - by and for artists.

JPEG magazine is very unique magazine that displays work by photographers that have been chosen through contests by their peers. For each edition of the magazine the website will post themes that photographers can submit to. All registered users of the site (free to register) can feel free to upload photos and also vote on whether or not submissions fit the theme. The photos with the most votes are then judged by the officials and submitted for publication.

The photographer is able to keep tabs on how many views and how many "yes" votes their submission is receiving, you can delete a submission that isn't doing well and submit a different photo all during the open period of the contest. Those features are pretty interesting to see how well your photo is being received, and I believe text comments can also be added by voters for additional feedback.

I find this site helpful and inspiring to see what others are doing for the themes. Check it out!

ps. The site goes through periodic maintenance which can be frustrating, but be patient and try again because it is worth it. :)

Hey everyone, here is a link to the Pantone site. From my understanding Pantone is universal color. There are ID numbers for each color which can be located and used in photoshop. There is some interesting stuff on the site. Check it out.

Connections are important, LTLYM site encourages connecting with the world and with others

Here is a link to a website called "Learning to Love You More". The site was conceived by a couple of artists to open up a forum for people to complete specific challenges in order to make specific and meaningful connections in their community. The challenges come in all forms, some are photography related, and once an individual completes one they will then upload the results of the challenge for others to appreciate. It is like an online gallery for artistic expression for the non-professional.

Click here for the website: Learning to Love You More

The specific assignment link I direct you to says to take a picture of the sun, maybe not too exciting but I appreciate the fact that so often I overlook the ordinary or mundane things I see everyday. I should instead stop and appreciate these ordinary things in life and by stopping to take a photo I will slow down and take a deep breath in the midst of stress. This in turn will benefit my ability to create better art.

I encourage anyone to take on one of these challenges and then post the result here on the blog. :)

Hello all. This web-site is on my favorites list. Even though its focus is on Nine Inch Nails (Trent Reznor) the images are really interesting I think. Check it out! :)
